Divi Flamingo sits on the water at the edge of Kralendijk and Pureocean is its bar, built out along a pier with steps that go straight down into the sea. That is the whole appeal. Bonaire’s reef starts more or less at the shoreline here, so the routine is descend a few stairs, snorkel until you have had enough, then float back and order. A Green Bonaire cocktail and a plate of Bonairean cheese balls is the standard reward. Live music happy hours land on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. One warning passed along by people who learned it the hard way: do not sit on the wooden steps at the waterline while you sort out your gear, because the crabs down there are territorial and they do not negotiate.
