Lac Bay on Bonaire’s east side is shallow, flat and reliably windy, which puts it on most short lists of the best windsurfing water anywhere. Sorobon Beach is where the sails come off the water, and Hang Out is the bar attached to Jibe City at the end of it. The reward for the day is a cold Polar and a sofa in the shade while other people are still out there fighting the wind. Thursday is the table BBQ, where they bring you raw meat or fish and you cook it yourself at your table, which is either hospitality or a labor-saving scheme and nobody is complaining either way. Sunday afternoons bring the beach party, and full moon parties fill in the rest. You do not need to windsurf. Watching counts.
