The Pilot is a beach bar built out of shipping containers, sitting on the shingle at Folkestone Harbour on the Kent coast. Craft cocktails, deckchairs, music, and the English Channel doing whatever it feels like doing that afternoon.
The detail that sells it is the seating. Some of it is 1980s dodgem cars, pulled out of a fairground and parked on the beach for people to drink in.
Folkestone has spent the last decade turning its seafront around and this is the drinking end of that project. Shingle rather than sand, so bring something to sit on if the dodgems are already taken.
