The Hut opened in 2013 at Colwell Bay on the northwest corner of the Isle of Wight, sitting just beyond the sea wall. It started out as a rough beach bar and did not stay that way.
Getting there is the whole story. Anchor north of the large white buoys and one of The Hut’s red tenders comes out and collects you off your boat, at no charge. If the bay is too choppy for the tenders to run you get redirected to Yarmouth and picked up in a restored 1970s military Land Rover. Arriving by helicopter is possible with prior arrangement, and landing fees apply.
The menu runs to seafood and the terrace faces west across the water toward Hurst Castle, which puts the sunset directly in front of you. Reservations are not optional. This one is nearer a restaurant than a bar, so calibrate before you turn up in a wet swimsuit.
