Surfside is the beach Oranjestad actually swims at. Under a mile from the cruise terminal, walking distance from downtown, and close enough to Reina Beatrix that jets come in over the sand on final approach. Surfside Beach Bar sits right on it, on L.G. Smith Boulevard, and it has quietly become the sunset spot for people who do not feel like driving up to Palm Beach. Cold drinks, sand underfoot, planes overhead, water in front of you. It is also the most useful bar on the island if your flight is delayed, since you can be at the gate in about ten minutes. Cruise passengers with a few hours to kill end up here for the same reason. Nothing fancy about it, and nothing needs to be.
