Marina del Rey is one of the largest man-made small-craft harbors in the world, and Whiskey Red’s sits on it with what may be the most generous outdoor patio in the marina. The 180-degree harbor views are the headline, with boats drifting past while you work through the beer-battered fish and chips or the coconut mahi nuggets, but the cocktail program and a happy hour running Wednesday through Sunday from 3 to 6pm keep the place packed well past the sunset crowd. The setting is social and a bit festive without tipping into resort territory. This is a real neighborhood bar that happens to have a spectacular waterfront perch, with live music on weekends and a menu solid enough to justify the trip on its own.
