One of Venice Beach’s most storied bars, the Venice Whaler has been serving cold drinks and live music on the boardwalk since 1979, a genuine Venice institution with an upstairs deck overlooking the Pacific and the parade of Ocean Front Walk below. Jim Morrison reportedly drank here; the Doors played nearby; and the Whaler captures the creative, bohemian, slightly unhinged spirit that made Venice Beach one of the most culturally significant beaches in America.

We Haven’t Been Here Yet

The Beach Bar Bum hasn’t made it to The Venice Whaler yet. Budget cuts, tragic. But there’s water, drinks, and zero shoe policy, so it’s on the list. We just need a brave soul to confirm it’s real, preferably with a cold drink in hand.
