Prince O’Whales is the essential drink stop after a day at Dockweiler Beach, the only beach in LA County where bonfires are still allowed, and it has been the after-bonfire landing pad for Playa del Rey longer than anyone can specifically remember. There is absolutely nothing special about the bar itself, which is precisely why everybody loves it. This is an ancient dive in the best possible sense: unpretentious, affordable, gloriously nondescript. Walk in off Culver Boulevard still sandy, order a beer, and understand immediately why this neighborhood has no interest in gentrifying its watering hole.
