On the Elk River in Charlestown at the top of the Chesapeake Bay, the Wellwood River Shack is the Upper Bay’s premier waterfront bar and music venue: a legendary dock bar that draws big-name regional acts and local legends to its outdoor stage all season long. Crabs, cold drinks, and the kind of live music that makes you stay past midnight. The Elk River setting is genuinely beautiful; the energy when a good band is playing is genuinely hard to find anywhere else on the upper Bay. A bucket-list stop for any serious Chesapeake dock bar devotee.

We Haven’t Been Here Yet

The Beach Bar Bum hasn’t made it to The Wellwood River Shack yet. Budget cuts, tragic. But there’s water, drinks, and zero shoe policy, so it’s on the list. We just need a brave soul to confirm it’s real, preferably with a cold drink in hand.
