Aloe Bay is the working side of Dauphin Island, the part with the shrimp boats and the fuel dock and none of the beach umbrellas. Pelican Pub sits up over Dockside Seafood on De Soto Avenue and looks straight out at it. This is a pub in the honest sense: cold beer, a seat outside, and water doing water things about twenty feet away. If you want the fried shrimp basket, that comes from downstairs. If you want to sit and watch the bay go orange while the boats come in, come up. The island runs on a ferry schedule and a bridge, so afternoons here stretch longer than they do on the mainland. Nobody will rush you and nobody will ask what you do for a living.
