On First Street in Benicia on the Carquinez Strait, Mare Island Brewing brings the history and character of the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard into a craft brewery and taproom with fresh-brewed ales, lagers, and stouts. The naval history of the region (Mare Island was the US Navy’s first Pacific coast naval shipyard) infuses the brand’s identity; the beers are excellent; and the Benicia waterfront setting makes this one of the most characterful craft brewery taprooms in the Bay Area.

We Haven’t Been Here Yet

The Beach Bar Bum hasn’t made it to Mare Island Brewing Co. – First Street yet. Budget cuts, tragic. But there’s water, drinks, and zero shoe policy, so it’s on the list. We just need a brave soul to confirm it’s real, preferably with a cold drink in hand.
