The Surfside jetty runs out into the Gulf at the mouth of the Freeport ship channel, and it is the best fishing spot in the village. The Jetty Shack is the bar and kitchen closest to it, out on Parkview Road, and it is a shack in the way that matters: no frills, breakfast tacos in the morning, po-boys and fresh-caught seafood after. The clientele is fishermen going out and fishermen coming back. If you want a place with a menu designed by a consultant, keep driving. If you want a cold beer, a fish taco, and a look at the jetty with water on either side of it, this is the address. Get there early enough for the tacos and stay through the afternoon.
