There are no signs on the road pointing to Indian Pass Raw Bar, and the people who know about it would prefer to keep it that way. Located at the end of Indian Pass Road on the Forgotten Coast between Apalachicola and Port St. Joe, this cash-only screened-in shack has been shucking some of the finest oysters in Florida since 1929. The picnic tables are inside the screen porch. The beer is cold and cheap. The oysters, raw, steamed, or baked, come straight out of the bay. There is no pretension, no cocktail menu, and no Yelp-optimized experience to be had. What there is: a genuine piece of Old Florida that has somehow survived into the present day, a loyal local crowd, and the quiet satisfaction of having found something real. Bring cash, bring a cooler for the drive back, and don’t tell anyone.
