Built in a 1897 US Life Saving Station on the bluffs above Cahoon Hollow Beach on the Outer Cape, the Beachcomber is the only oceanfront bar on the Atlantic-facing side of Cape Cod, a distinction protected by a grandfather clause when President Kennedy created the Cape Cod National Seashore in 1961. Since 1953, it has been delivering fresh Wellfleet oysters, the legendary Goombay Smash rum cocktail, live music, and the most spectacular Atlantic Ocean views on the Cape from an outdoor raw bar and dance bar perched above a Great White Shark-patrolled beach. Voted Best Bar on the Cape and Islands by Boston Magazine, Best Bars in America by Esquire, and #10 on the Travel Channel’s list of the world’s sexiest beach bars.

The Beach Bar Bum hasn’t made it to The Beachcomber of Wellfleet yet. Budget cuts, tragic. But there’s water, drinks, and zero shoe policy, so it’s on the list. We just need a brave soul to confirm it’s real, preferably with a cold drink in hand.
