Welp, here we are again. Is this a beach bar? There’s salt water, boats, palm trees, cold drinks — even sand. But not an actual beach in the truest sense of the word…
That, my friends, is for you to decide. For this Beach Bar Bum, it’s a wonderful slice of paradise no matter what you call it.
The Full Story
Nestled on the Loxahatchee River on the Jupiter Inlet, Square Grouper is a rustic looking amalgamation of bars and buildings and a stage and open-air seating. The water views are outstanding, and all in all it’s a great place to hang out and enjoy a beverage while watching marina activity. I happened to be there on a chilly day and there were curtains to cut the wind, but I have no doubt that it’s an even better place when everything is open to the elements.
The bar staff (shout out to Brooklyn and Ashley) were welcoming and absolutely top notch, and tipped me off to the fact that The Square Grouper was featured in Alan Jackson’s video for “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” – featuring none other than the Beach Bar Bum’s favorite Calypso poet, Jimmy Buffett! Check it out…
If that’s not beach bar street cred, I don’t know what is…
Oh, and there’s a full menu of bar food done right, and enough beach drinks (Dirty Monkey, anyone?) to make even Jimmy Buffett feel at home — which, as it turns out, he was.
The Beach Bar Bum’s Prime Seat:
You would struggle to find a bad seat here. It’s such a great set up for a bar – even if you happen to be seated at the bar with your back to the water, you can just simply turn around and enjoy the view. That being said, try and snag one of the tables right on the water, and enjoy your own little slice of Margaritaville.
