One of the Beach Bar Bum’s most frequented beach bars!
THIS is a beach bar. With an expansive covered area facing the sand – and just beyond, blue Caribbean water. Sublime, to say the least.
The Full Story
Located on Sapphire Beach on the Northeastern side of St. Thomas, Sapphire Beach Bar is on the sand, sandwiched between a condo complex of the same name and a smaller, older resort known as Crystal Cove. There’s plenty of parking, but there is typically a person in the guard shack out front. Don’t let that dissuade you; just let them know you’re there to partake in the bar. Parking is on the left and there is also a taxi shack out front for the smart people that catch rides.
The menus are typical island fare – burgers and fish tacos paired with the de rigueur rum punch and painkillers. None of it’s fancy, but it all hits. If you want to up your game, there is a newer restaurant (Sea Salt) that is but a few steps away. We didn’t bother with the restaurant, as we never made it past the bar. Sea Salt does offer oceanside dining – and a bar – so consider this a 2 for 1!
Insider Tips:
- It can get crowded at the bar, and like most things in the Virgin Islands, the people here are on island time. Be patient and they will take good care of you. Be a typical tourist and it will take a lot longer to be waited on.
Beach Bar Bum’s Prime Seat:
If there was one tiny thing to nitpick about (and it’s truly a nit) it’s that there aren’t any seats that face the ocean while at the bar. You either have your back to the water or you’re at a 90 degree angle. The pro move? Grab one of those chairs that have their backs to the water, spin them around and enjoy one of the best views in St. Thomas.
