A Southern Maryland waterfront inn and crab house in Mechanicsville on the Patuxent, Sandgates combines overnight accommodations with a traditional crab house that serves the surrounding community with steamed blue crabs, local seafood, and the kind of genuinely regional character that Southern Maryland does better than most of the Bay. The Patuxent River setting is peaceful, and the combination of inn and crab house has served the St. Mary’s-Calvert County community for decades.

We Haven’t Been Here Yet

The Beach Bar Bum hasn’t made it to Sandgates Inn Restaurant and Crab House yet. Budget cuts, tragic. But there’s water, drinks, and zero shoe policy, so it’s on the list. We just need a brave soul to confirm it’s real, preferably with a cold drink in hand.
