In 1880 Edmond and Rosy Frapart built a hotel, restaurant, bar and dancehall on the Mandeville lakefront for the New Orleans crowd arriving by steamer. It is the only one of those hotels left. In 1905 the property became Rest Awhile, a charitable lakeside retreat, and it stayed that way until Katrina in 2005 left it a ghost on Lakeshore Drive for nearly a decade. Barrett McGuire bought it in 2014 and spent seven years putting it back; Pat and Chyrl Gallagher opened the restaurant in late 2020. Hanging on the wall is the last known wooden sled from the Shoot-the-Shoot water slide that once stood out in Lake Pontchartrain. The 1916 cottage next door is a 21-and-up cocktail room pouring Sazeracs. The lake is right across the road.
