Carl Fisher built the Montauk Yacht Club here in 1928 when he was trying to turn the tip of Long Island into the Miami of the North. The crash of 1929 ended that plan, but the property survived, and Gurney’s took it over in 2017 and turned it into what Fisher probably imagined all along. The marina accommodates superyachts up to 220 feet. The outdoor bar by the fire pits overlooks the boat slips. The celeb-spotting odds are higher than at most bars in the country. It’s aspirational and expensive, but the setting (Lake Montauk, boats, evening light) earns it.
