Depoe Bay claims the world’s smallest natural harbor, a slot in the basalt coastline that fishing boats thread through with alarming confidence. Gracie’s Sea Hag has been watching them do it from the seawall since 1963. The bar is named for the legendary Gracie Strome, who ran the place with the kind of personality that becomes local mythology. The seafood is fresh off the dock—Dungeness crab, chowder, fish and chips—and the coastal views from the bar are uninterrupted. Portland Monthly named it among the essential Oregon coast bars. The stretch of 101 through Depoe Bay is one of the more dramatic on the coast; the Sea Hag is where you stop.
