Pantai Cenang has cycled through a lot of beach bars over the years, and Yellow Beach Café is one of the few originals still standing. Painted the exact shade of yellow the name promises, and impossible to miss along the promenade, it was one of the pioneers of the toes-in-the-sand, bean-bag-seating concept that half of Langkawi’s beach bars have since copied. The menu wanders from burgers and New Zealand lamb to Mama-Mia-style pastas, and the drink list runs deep thanks to Langkawi’s duty-free status, which makes this one of the cheapest places in Malaysia to drink well. Live music fills the evenings, and the sunset over the Andaman Sea does the rest of the work for free. Everything around Yellow Beach Café has changed. Somehow it hasn’t.
