On July 4, 1913, Ocean Beach opened the West Coast’s largest roller coaster, a waterslide, and a zoo with 350 monkeys on a nine-and-a-half-acre beachfront plot. Wonderland Park lasted two summers before closing, but its name lives on at Wonderland Ocean Pub, a craft beer and seafood bar that pays direct tribute to the neighborhood’s gonzo amusement history. The views from this elevated perch are legitimately some of the best in San Diego: the OB Pier, the Pacific, and the kind of sunsets that make you forget your drink. The menu leans coastal (ceviche, New England poutine with clam chowder and fresh clams), and the rotating local tap list is serious. A daily sunset toast tradition keeps things properly ceremonial.
