A St. Pete Beach institution at 46 46th Avenue, the Drunken Clam is exactly what its name and its striking orange-and-teal façade promise — an open-air, breeze-friendly beach dive bar directly across from the Gulf with dollar bills stapled to the walls, Christmas lights strung across the back bar, 13 TVs in sight of every seat, and the award-winning naked wings that have been the talk of the Pinellas beach bar circuit since winning the Wingstock wing contest. The kitchen is small and the menu matches — but fresh unbreaded wings in Cajun Parmesan Garlic, Sriracha, Jerk, and a dozen other preparations, hand-pattied fresh burgers, steamed clams, peel-and-eat shrimp, and seared sesame tuna are all done genuinely well. Live music runs Tuesday through Saturday nights. The locals have claimed it as their own; the seasonal visitors come back year after year; and the staff knows both crowds by name. Some people wander in because it shares its name with the bar from Family Guy. Nobody leaves disappointed.
