The birthplace of the Painkiller cocktail and one of the most legendary beach bars in the world, the Soggy Dollar sits on the pristine white sands of White Bay, Jost Van Dyke with no dock — the only way in is to anchor offshore and swim. The name comes from the wet bills sailors pulled from their pockets to pay for drinks. The original Painkiller was created here in the early 1970s: dark rum, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juice, topped with freshly grated Grenadian nutmeg. The slogan is a Sunny Place for Shady People. Every BVI sailing charter itinerary includes a swim to the Soggy Dollar.
