Otres Beach used to be Cambodia’s best-kept secret, a four-kilometer stretch of sand where guesthouse owners had an unspoken rule to cut the music by 10pm. Development and a wave of casino construction have chewed into that reputation over the past decade, but Otres Corner has held its ground as the beach’s liveliest holdout, throwing Cambodia’s largest monthly Full Moon Party, smaller than the legendary events on Thailand’s Koh Phangan but plenty loud for a Tuesday. On any other night, it settles into movie nights, board games, Poker Mondays, and psychedelic Fridays for the backpackers still finding their way to this side of Sihanoukville. Cocktails start around a dollar fifty, fire shows light up the sand after dark, and the whole operation still runs on that original Otres promise: come for the beach, stay because nobody’s rushing you out. The rest of Otres has changed. Otres Corner is still the reason to come.
