The Beach Bar Bum Says:

Ocean Deck Restaurant and Beach Club didn’t just stumble into the spotlight — it earned it. USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards named it the No. 1 beach bar in America for 2025, calling it “one of the best places to take in world-famous Daytona Beach.” For the Beach Bar Bum, that’s not just a headline — it’s a mission brief. Consider it accomplished.

Full disclosure: there was a moment of concern when I wandered up to the upper deck. Beautiful space — gorgeous wood floors, heavy ceiling beams, a proper bar. But it skewed more restaurant than beach bar, and the Bum doesn’t settle. So I pressed on.

And was handsomely rewarded.

Downstairs is where your people are. Rustic, gritty, cozy, beachy — flip-flop friendly in the best possible way. The bar is massive, the beer is cold, and those double doors leading to the deck? Rarely closed. As it should be.

The Full Story

Ocean Deck started as a humble hot dog stand in 1957. Today it’s Daytona Beach’s most iconic beach bar — and purportedly the only bar on the entire East Coast with a beach stage. Two levels of ocean-facing drinking and dining, with the lower deck sitting directly on the sand where reggae bands play live every night and the dance floor bleeds right into the beach. Upstairs you’ll find Mason jar cocktails, award-winning clam chowder, mahi mahi sandwiches, and wings tossed in their cult-favorite Rasta Sauce. Sundays are Reggae Sundays, with afternoon sets that build into the evening. Multiple Top 10 Florida Beach Bar awards. The accolades are well-earned.

One more thing worth noting: Ocean Deck is the only beach bar in Daytona actually sitting on the sand — a rare gift of being grandfathered in before the regulations caught up. The rest of the competition is stuck watching from the sidewalk.

And yes — I’ve been here before. Way back in my 80s Spring Break days. I remember the deck being… somewhat smaller. (That’s a very inside comment. If you get it, I’d love to hear from you.)

The Beach Bar Bum’s Prime Seat

Easy call: grab anything you can on that back deck. Yes, the midday sun is hot. But you’re at the beach, with an endless supply of ice-cold beer. There are worse ways to spend an afternoon. Many, many worse ways.
