We haven't made it to this bar yet, but here is what we know

The building is neon yellow and sits right on the edge of US 1, which is the entire marketing strategy and it works. Driving the Overseas Highway through Islamorada, you are not going to miss it.

It opened in October 2014 as Islamorada Beer Company, started by a group of college friends. Sandbar Sunday was the original beer and it is still pouring. The one most people order is the No Wake Zone, a coconut key lime ale, on the reasonable grounds that they are in the Keys and it seems like the correct thing to do.

The distillery came later, in December 2017, and was the first ever to open in Islamorada. There is a 100 gallon still on site and oak barrels aging rum, vodka and gin, and the spirit samples are free. Cocktails come on tap here, including Pirate Punch rum and a Lavender Lemonade that has developed a following of its own.

A second location and production facility operates up in Fort Pierce, but this is the one where it started.

We Haven’t Been Here Yet
The Beach Bar Bum hasn’t made it to Islamorada Brewery & Distillery yet. Budget cuts, tragic. But there’s water, drinks, and zero shoe policy, so it’s on the list. We just need a brave soul to confirm it’s real, preferably with a cold drink in hand.
