Getting to Bitter End is half the story: boat, tender, taxi, shuttle – sailors have it easier. Born in the late ’60s as a jetty and a handful of cottages, it grew into one of the BVI’s top sailing destinations before Hurricane Irma erased it completely in 2017. It reopened in December 2021, rebuilt around a beach bar fashioned from a converted boat, overlooking the North Sound with views across the other Virgin Islands. Mostly well-heeled, repeat-visit yachters, but the vibe is loose and unpretentious despite the upscale surroundings. Local Leatherback Brewery drafts, a proper Painkiller, and a bar sampler menu that overdelivers. Worth the trouble.

Boat access only to a private island in the Sir Francis Drake Channel, Cooper Island pours craft rum cocktails good enough that the charter boat crowd treats the stop as a genuine ritual.

Perched on a literal sliver of rock accessible only by water taxi, Saba Rock somehow became one of North Sound’s essential stops for the endless parade of yachts anchoring around it.

The most centrally located marina in the BVI, and, depending on who you ask, the actual birthplace of “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” Jimmy Buffett himself told the story of writing the song here while his boat got repaired, though Cane Garden Bay locals will argue that point till last call. Either way, Village Cay’s open-air restaurant and bar overlooking the Sir Francis Drake Channel is prime real estate.

Trellis Bay near the airport is one of Tortola’s most social anchorages, and De Loose Mongoose is the reason sailors decide to stay the extra night.
